Willie Nelson Center Students for Peace
Music and the arts have a long history of bringing down the walls that divide us. Willie Nelson, a music legend consistently blurring the line between genres, is an iconic figure on a literal quest for harmony. Through his longstanding commitment to the peace movement, his work on behalf of struggling farmers and a music catalog steeped in diversity, Willie has demonstrated a unique ability to build bridges across society. The UTPCR chose Mr. Nelson for its first Bridging Divides Award to be given to prominent popular figures who have made a difference and inspired us toward more positive conflict resolution.
This Texas troubadour is partnering with the UTPCR in the creation of the UT Willie Nelson Center Students for Peace and Conflict Resolution. The use of the Nelson name creates instant recognition among a broad audience of music and movie aficionados. The Center adds to the Willie Nelson legacy of peaceful activism and provides the university with a valuable tool for promoting the important work of the UTPCR.
